Pt 1: Pros & Cons of Camming

I’m considering going back to camming. I’ve been putting a lot of thought into the things I would do differently, and the pros and cons of the job in an effort to figure out if this is right for me.

Con: Some nights it feels like it takes forever to get started. For whatever reason, there will be nights that are dead, especially after you’re no longer showing up as being a new broadcaster. I mean, sure, it gets better once you develop a good following, but there are simply nights that aren’t worth your time.

Pro: With my busy life, I wouldn’t be able to find a second job that tends to my schedule. With camming, I can work when I need to. Working from home is a major bonus as well.

Con: I’ve talked about “the circle jerk” in previous posts, but it wouldn’t be a pro and con list about camming without bringing it up. It isn’t like I didn’t expect to be objectified- I knew what I was signing up for. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t get irritating when you see “I deserve to see pussy xx” and your fifth dick pic in ten minutes on your screen.

Pro: On the other hand of that, you will undoubtably be showered in compliments. I’d be lying if I said a piece of me didn’t eat up being called “beautiful” and “gorgeous” every time I logged in.

Con: A weird thing about being a cam model that nobody seems to talk about: there is constantly people messaging you trying to give you advice. Everything you offer is too cheap, or too expensive. Someone always has an idea to get you more views. Truly, the constant stream of people correcting your stream gets exhausting, and if I do go back to being a cam model, it’s something I’d need to start ignoring.

Pro: You’re constantly touching and edging yourself for an extended period of time. Some of my best orgasms have happened on camera, or shortly after it’s turned off.

I’m still undecided, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated. Check back next week for part two: what I would do differently. Thanks for reading!

Love always,
Amy

Privates vs. Password Shows

This week’s post was going to be on being gay as a cam model, but in all honestly I ended up needing to write it in a public space. Since there’s an older gentlemen continuously looking at my screen, I chose to take a different route and do a technical piece for you. Glancers understand that less.

When I started, I thought private’s and password shows were essentially the same. They’re not. Here’s a quick post on the difference.

Password Shows

  • When you start a password show, it kicks the audience out of your room, and they won’t be able to return until you’re off.
  • There is no option for your other viewers to “spy” on your show. I had viewers who were super into this idea, as it made them feel like they were getting something more exclusive. It’s a good option to bring in those kind of people.

New girls beware: When I first started, I had someone try and convince me to set a phrase in the password show section, saying that it would get me more views, as it acted as a hashtag. That didn’t make much sense to me so I didn’t do it, but in case someone is a little smarter about how they phrase it to you, just know they’re scamming you for a free show.

  • Money: Always take your tokens up front for these shows because you will hear “I’ll pay you in a gift” or “I want to make sure I like your show before I pay you”. That pay cheque will never come.

Private Shows

  • -When you leave for a private show, your other viewers won’t be given the boot. A message will appear across your screen to let them know you’re in a private, and they can leave your cam open if they please.
  • -In my opinion, private shows are where it’s at. Because you get paid by the minute, this is where you can get dirty and make your killing. And people know that this is where you get scandalous, so not only will you be collecting tokens from the primary client, but also from those paying to “spy” on the show.
  • -Money 2.0: The website does the work for you. If your client runs out of tokens, the private show will automatically end. There’s no guess work. It’s great.

A final note before you go: Don’t be that girl that obviously drags things out to keep them in your private show longer. It makes for bad business. Keep it subtle.

  1. Add a minimum time requirement to your show.
  2. Instead of asking how they are, talk dirty to them before taking off any clothes.
  3. Instead of being neutral, prolong your fake orgasm and pretend to be edging.

Make it rain, girl, make it rain.

Check back next week for our scheduled post about being gay as a cam girl!

*Read This Post*

The most important post so far. Read this for safety tips!

Many of my fans don’t know that one of the main reasons I quit being a cam model so abruptly was that I had a pretty scary experience. One regular of mine insisted on meeting in person, even if it was just for coffee. I set clear boundaries, and made it very apparent that this wouldn’t happen but he insisted on it. Believing he knew what city I was in, he started going places that he thought I frequented in an attempt to see me in person. If I posted something about McDonalds, he would shortly after send a photo of himself in a McDonalds upset that he had missed me. He once visited the university that he thought I belonged to and even went to approach a girl who apparently looked like me. Obviously, I blocked him, and never went near the city he believed I lived in. Nonetheless, the experience stuck with me. I didn’t have a huge following, and this still happened to me. It happens. Taking precautions to stay safe online is so important, especially in this industry. Here are some super important tips about staying safe as an online model.

1. Use a fake name

I’ve met cam models who use their real first names, but don’t give out their last. Not good enough. In fact, a lot of models not only use a fake name, but also have a fake real name ready to give to their special clients to give them a false sense of intimacy. Under no circumstance should you give your real name to anybody you meet through the site.

2. Hide your location

If you’re using Chaturbate, your province or state is automatically on your bio. To remove it:

Bio > Edit Your Bio > Location*

Backspace what is written there, and type to change it. I changed mine to “Canada” but a lot of models will just write something funny there. It’s up to you but I advice against having your state or province published there, especially if you’re from a smaller region.

If you use SnapChat, be sure to turn off your location from maps as well. To do this:

Settings > Who Can… > See My Location > Enable Ghost Mode

Be aware of the things you talk about on camera as well. Things to avoid talking about as it could give away hints of your whereabouts include significant weather, locally owned shops, nearby schools, events ect.

3. Geoblock

What if someone in your area watches your cam room, and then happens to run into you in public? To avoid this uncomfortable, and potentially dangerous situation, you can block users access to your rooms if they’re from certain locations by using their IP address. On Chaturbate, you can do this by:

Settings & Privacy > Broadcaster Settings > Block access to users in these countries: OR Block access to users in these regions: > select desired locations.

Personally, I blocked the province I lived in, but also the province I was raised in so that family members couldn’t accidentally find me.

Note: your shows can be recorded and re-uploaded on other sites, and you will have no way of geo blocking this material. There will be a blog devoted to Network sites soon!

Of course, these are just three ways to safe. There are many others, such as using a fake birthday, and never meeting up with anyone in real life. Thank you for reading this important post, and I hope to see you for a special interview next week!

I once knew this girl who referred to her period as her “Shark Week”, which I thought was both hilarious and cleaver. A couple of us even got her a little bag with a photo of “Jaws” on it to keep her sanitary items in. Welcome to your quick guide on surviving your period as an online performer, inspired by sharks.

Take a Week Off

While this solution may be the best route for models who are new to the business, it doesn’t always work for those who are more well known, and have already gained a sizeable following.

Hide It

The trick most cam girls use is simple. Take the string of your tampon, and tuck it in. Do not cut it. With this trick, you can still do clitoral, anal shows- anything that doesn’t involve vaginal penetration.

Change Your Birth Control

There are some birth controls that cause you to have your period once every three months, or not at all. Talk to your doctor for more information, and to find out if this is an option for you.

Own It

Not something I’ve ever done, but there are plenty of girls who add #period to the title of their show, and continue on as normal. There’s a market for everything when it comes to the sex industry.
PS. You should always thoroughly clean your sex toys after each use, but pay extra special attention when on your period.

(Note: this is technically against Chaturbate’s policy, as they disallow mentions of menstruation.)

Sea Sponge

I’ve never personally met anyone who uses a sea sponge, but this is a common trick used in the porn industry. The two key things to remember when doing this: A make up sponge can not substitute a sea sponge, and you must boil the sponge first. Also, make sure you are totally comfortable taking it out before you put it in. That would be one awkward trip to the doctor!

Get More Clicks

One of your goals as a cam model is to get as many views as possible. Why? Because more viewers equals more tip potential. Here’s a quick guide to getting more users in your chat room.

How to Get More Views

Posing Perfection

Cam websites take a “screenshot” of you every 30 seconds, and use that photo to advertise your chatroom on their main page. For this reason, you have to be very aware of what you’re doing, and the positions that you’re in. I was on camera one night, and realized that all the girls being advertised were all laying down. So by standing up, and offering something different to potential clients, my view count nearly doubled.

Timing

Picking the perfect times to get online can be tricky. Times with more audience traffic usually comes with more cam models being online, thus making it less likely for your camera to be chosen. Try a couple times of the day to see what works best for you. Personally, I found the weekends to always be busiest.

#Hashtag

A really great way to help users find you is by using hashtags in your chat room title. The top 10 hashtags that appear to be most commonly used are

  1. #asian
  2. #young
  3. #naked
  4. #lush or #lovesense
  5. #anal
  6. #18 or #teen
  7. #squirt
  8. #bigboobs
  9. #cum
  10. #new

*Quick tip: If you start a bot in your chat room, it will remove the hashtags from your title. Make sure to add them back after the bot is going!

Your Following

This last tip for getting views isn’t necessarily one I would recommend, but one I’ve seen work for other cam models. The idea is that the more followers you have, the more views you will have in the future since those following you have the link to your chatroom automatically saved in a special tab. How do you get guaranteed followers? By offering a full frontal nudity show in the free chat. Will you get more followers, and hence more views? Sure. Will you get paid for that show? Not really. Will you get lots of people who expect you to do such shows for free every time? Probably.

Thanks for reading. Let me know what tips and tricks I missed.

Special Announcement Time

I’m so excited to be introducing a new series to the website. Interviews! In this series, I will be interviewing cam models, and those with direct experiences with them. An interview will be posted the first Friday of every moth, so be sure to stay tuned. In the first blog of this series, you’ll meet Jonny, an interesting, and tech savvy gentleman who does coding for cam models on Chaturbate. See it first!

Setting the Stage

Step One to Your Show: Setting the Stage

Whether your first show is soon to happen, or you’re an experienced cam model, the atmosphere you design is a crucial part in getting views. Here are five things to consider when setting the stage for your audience.

Pick a Background

A lot of people in the cam world tend to start out by filming on their bed. The perk of this is that it’s comfortable, but the downside is that a majority of cam models have the same setting. I’ve heard of people doing quite well outside, in their bathrooms ect. Personally, I set up a rug on my floor to stay comfortable, but also to offer an alternative background for viewers.

*Quick Tip: double check there’s nothing in the background that could hint at your location, or who you are. Examples of this include flags, university logos, and so on.

Actually Clean

I’ve visited other models chat rooms, and the number one thing I notice clients being turned off by is a messy background. You need to realize these people are buying a fantasy. They don’t want to see your dirty socks next to you rolling around for the camera.

Music

Make a playlist of not only mood-setting music, but also music that you like. When traffic slows, you’ll be thankful for a song you can hum or sing along to while you wait for things to pick up. Just be sure to keep the music at a level where you can enjoy it, but your customers can still hear you speak clearly. They’re here for personality. It’s also worth noting that it’s much harder for someone to steal your show and post it as porn if you’re playing music since it becomes a copyright issue.

Lighting

Lighting and angles are the two most important aspects in making you look good for the camera. The best tip would be to set up your light source behind the camera. Invest in a great light if you can, but if not, a high power lamp will be just fine.

The Main Attraction

The main challenge of being a cam model is finding a way to stand out from the crowd. You aren’t going to be able to accomplish this by throwing on your nude undies and stained bra. Consider investing in matching underwear sets, lingerie, and even costumes. Catholic school girl, teacher, and cosplay tend to be costumes that get the most attention, but you can be creative and dress however you please. I once dressed up as a mermaid, since I have red hair. It didn’t last long, but I had a lot of fun with it!

Toys

The final tip. When setting up up your surroundings, make sure you have your toys cleaned, and ready to be used. Perhaps even place them in the shot to grab viewers attention. To get sex toys, check out Pink Cherry or Lovense!

I hope these five tips to setting a stage was helpful. Be sure to catch next weeks blog about the entire reason we have this job… Money! Disclaimer: next weeks blog is about the technical stuff, but don’t worry, there will be one on tips to make more dough coming soon. Thanks for reading!

Before You Become a Cam Model

adult alluring attractive beautiful

So, you’re thinking of becoming a cam girl? Great. Here is a brief list of things to consider, and things to do before you get started.

Some Things to Think About First

Your job.

This is arguably the most important thing to consider. While becoming an online model is a legal and valid way of making extra income, not all employers will view it that way. If you work with children, politics, or anything of the sorts, perhaps being a cam model is too risky.

Your clients.

When it comes to the men watching you, some moral conflicts can occur. A lot of them are married, and aren’t shy about it. Some will even want you to talk about their wives, or pretend she just caught him cheating. It’s a fantasy that you have to be willing to play along with. Aside from cheating clients, you also need to be aware that some men seem to be under the impression that they are “buying a girlfriend” and will want to always be in contact with you. Most importantly, you need to be aware that some clients will attempt to locate you. While there are plenty of precautions you can take to keep yourself safe, this will always be a risk.

Your time.

A lot of the appeal in working in this industry is that you get to make your own schedule. While this is true, being a cam girl will still take a lot of your time. To be successful, you’re going to need to make a regular schedule, and engage in social media while you aren’t on the clock. Snapchat was the demise of my cam model career, as it made me feel like I was constantly working.

Before You Start

Still want to become a cam girl? Glad to hear- there are lots of perks to the job. Here are some things you need to do before starting.

Social Media

Lock it down. Update your Facebook settings so that people can not search your name. Make your Instagram private and detach your real name to the account. Change your Snapchat username to a nickname. The last thing you want is for someone to accidentally stumble upon one of your personal social medias.

Social Media 2.0

When it comes to setting up social media for your cam girl persona, make sure you use an email specifically for this. Do not attach any social media to your personal email. You’re going to want an Amazon account, a Snapchat (probably), and a Twitter. Some also opt to have Skype, Kik, and Instagram but all of these are at your own digression.

Signing Up

To sign up, the website you use will need your real name, a scan of your ID, and a photo of you holding your ID close to your face. Your real information will be safe with your website.

Quick Tip: It can take a while to get verified. I remember having to re-submit my scans and photos upward of 10 times. Pay close attention to the guidelines, lighting, and angles (ie. the photo may not be accepted if admins cannot see the top of your head). It’ll happen.

I hope you enjoyed today’s blog. If you’ve decided on becoming a cam girl, good luck, be safe, and have fun! Check next week to read all about making money as a cam girl.
